A Historic Space

A UNIQUELY NASHVILLE EVENT VENUE.

The Bell Tower, a historic church dating back to 1874, has been transformed into a modern, open floor plan event venue.

Exposed beams, natural light,  and an upper level mezzanine, are sure to make this venue one of the most desired spots in downtown Nashville. Other amenities include a full on-site kitchen, bridal lounges, and state of the art light and sound.

With the ability to accommodate seated dinners for up to 400 and cocktail style receptions for 700, this location is the single largest free standing venue in downtown Nashville.

HISTORY OF

The Bell Tower

The building, located at 400 4th Ave South, dates back to 1874 when the area was referred to as Black Bottom. Titled after the dark, muddied streets caused by periodic river flooding. With a conglomeration of brothels, saloons and gambling joints, the notable African-American neighborhood was said to be lively and culturally rich. It is even believed famous writer Zola Neale Hurston got some of her ideas on black urban life from walking the streets of Black Bottom.

Originally Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church, The Bell Tower was one of the first churches built in Nashville by freed slaves after the Civil War. Most of the neighborhood was demolished following World War II, and The Bell Tower is one of the last remaining structures that dates back to Black Bottom.

The location functioned as Saint Paul until the late 60s when the AME Church relocated. Since then the building has served as a night club, warehouse, and most recently housed the EOA Architecture offices.

At the end of 2012, singer-songwriter Brett James, purchased the property.  After entertaining different concepts and options for the space, he partnered with Infinity Hospitality Group to create an event and concert venue. The redesign maintained much of the building’s history and character. The original beams and downstairs stonework remain, as well as the original sub-flooring, which is comprised of salvaged wood from homes destroyed during the war.

The newly named Bell Tower opened in November of 2014.
